Scam email help

Options
I recieved an email a few weeks ago claiming to be from Adobe saying there was an update. It went into my inbox and not into the spam folder but I knew it was a scam so I didn't open it and moved it to the delete folder. It's still in there now. Now I'm worried that I'll start getting more scams like this. This is the first one I have had at this email address. Would it be best to close this email address and open a new one? or am I just over reacting? I would feel safer with a new address but it'll take ages to change it on all the sites I use. I just wanted opinions on what others who are more tech savvy than I am would do.

    You're over reacting!

If I changed my email for every spam mail I had I would've run out of names!

Bin it, delete it, forget about it!

Spam and the like is a fact of internet life. IMO it is pointless setting up a different email as that will start receiving spam too for sure.

Thanks. I think I was just surprised that it's been leaked. I was so careful to not give it out. I've only used it for official companies so I was annoyed it had got out. So it's still safe to use this email address to buy things online with?

Relax, its safe to buy stuff with this address. No one can scam you just because they know your email address.

Your address may not have been leaked spammers just guess addresses, (well the computers do millions of guesses a second).

Have you used play.com ? as it appears from comments on the net that this is where it has been leaked from, though they deny it !

I use specific e-mail adds for companies, that way I can track who gives them away, in my instance I used platdotcom at xxxxxx.xxx and that is the address where this scam e-mail was sent to !

Some of my friends have had these, I bounced them back for them, they did not click on any links.

Thanks. No, I haven't shopped at play.com with this address. The email happened a few weeks ago and seems to be something to do with Paypal. That's what I found when I searched for it. I do have a Paypal account but I haven't used it for months. I'm going to close it down now and delete the email. It's still in the trash folder unopened.

There's a perfectly valid update to Adobe Reader called Adobe Reader X. (Possibly they couldn't work out what came next after version 9?) This presumes you want to use Adobe Reader and not a less bloated alternative!

Often these scammers just use some software that randomly spams emails such as john@hotmail, john1@hotmail, john2@hot etc so unless your email is very obscure there's always a chance it'll get randomly generated and spammed... that's why my email is TFWVsodfksd-vwa5azkarmchair@hjasdjkashqkerqtwetvwt.com.ttfn

and I never get any spam, or any emails for that matter

Treat it the same way you no doubt treat the pizza flyers that pop through the letterbox, delete it and forget it.
