Virtual phone number, an alternative to a 2nd line

I already have a 2nd mobile which I don't use much. I was considering buying a virtual phone number (which has a local landline STD), instead of getting a second line or other service.
Anyone here use virtual phone numbers ?

I don't have a virtual number yet but I am toying with the idea. I have been offered one on skype and there is a company (whose name I cannot remember at the mo) where you can have an 0843 number for free if you have a landline and a mobile but if you just list a mobile then you have to pay.
Another alternative is to get a phone that plugs into your modem and that can have any phone number you choose. I came across one company that does these for a nominal amount each month when I was networking. The company name is Audio Tech and I think they are based in Walsall or certainly the West Midlands.0 -
No need to buy or rent a UK 01/02 geographical number, or take an expensive to call non geographical number, as you can get a 01/02 one free from www.sipgate.co.uk
If you want to pick a good number 01/02 or even 03 subject to availability i can also recommend www.soho66.co.uk £2 a month rental.0 -
I use Skype. Costs a few quid a year but it gets logged, can be forwarded anywhere, I control it all and is painless to operate and use. A vital feature for me is the ease of use of Skype on 3 mobile. The cost is discounted by around 50% if you have a subscription for Skype.0
