You might want to redo the link:

    http://%22mse%20is%20biblical%20says%20tesco%20boss%22/ is what you get...

Ok ok, it's been changed now :D

Really interesting that the Tesco guy picked up on it, but very true!!
Only the other day I realised that there's actually very few decisions that I make without consulting MSE first: online shopping - what vouchers are available? buying a house - absolutely every aspect! home insurance - consult the guide; switching energy providers, - see guide; choosing a holiday destination - ask on forum; trying for a baby - there's a MSE group; being pregnant - MSE group; having children - MSE group etc, etc. It's so much more than just about debt!
;) Working hard in the hopes of being 'lucky' ;)

When I am stumped about anything to do with money, I have a look thru MSE ... there is so much info here, and great advice (if you ignore the trolls).

The reason MSE has such a large membership is, like ebay, it started small, built up a following through mentions in Martin Lewis' column in The Guardian, his appearances on the telly, was mentioned by other journos (financial and other), snowballed, and has no competitors in the UK.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
  • I also think it's popular in that it takes a decent time to build up a good reputation as a user, which means that a lot of the fly by nighters rapidly disappear leaving only a huge core of people. With the Thanks feature as well, you can soon see the validity of a poster, a ratio of 1 thank per poster means that it's on the whole a well thought through opinion, even if it's the opposite of your opinion!

Oh, and forum moderators who are speedy at getting rid of trolls.
    Well done Martin.

In the beginning was the Word. And the Word was Martin and his disciples' (mostly) helpful and selfless advice.

The number of people whose lives have been enhanced and improved by the advice and encouragement IS almost Biblical (and I was raised by parents who are missionaries, so I know of what I speak).

That said - if Martin is ever approached by a couple of folks dressed as Romans carrying a few lengths of 2' x 4' and some nails I advise him to run. Run quite fast.

And - lo - Martin decreed that on That Day there should be a place where desperate and almost hopeless folk could come for free, impartial, advice and support. And the place was named Moneysavingexpert.com. And he saw that it was good.

Here endeth the lesson. Thanks be to thee, o Martin.

Go in peace to love and not overspend again.

    Roo and Jasper-dog. xx
