Windows 7 ultimate

Hi. My copy of windows 7 ultimate I got of eBay has turned out to be fake. Microsoft has blocked the key. But it had worked for about 8 months.
So I’m looking to get a new legal copy of windows 7 ultimate.
I’m not buying if from eBay again and Microsoft will sell me a copy for £139.00 which i think is a bit steep.

I know I can get premium for £109.00 but that would mean I will have to do a full install.
Does anyone know where I could get a legit copy of ultimate for a better price? Retail or OEM? Thanks guys.

Think the route I went has closed now

Buy Windows Vista ultimate (full edition, RETAIL boxed) £150
Recieve free copy of Windows 7 ultimate during the initial release offer period (upgrade edition, RETAIL boxed)
uninstall and sell Vista Ultimate on ebay (-£80 after fees)
Keep Windows 7 Ultimate for a net cost of £70

Only option I see is either becoming a student and getting a cheapo student copy or biting the bullet but making sure you get a RETAIL boxed version of Win7 ultimate and factor in you'll be able to uninstall and sell it further down the line on ebay to recover some of the initial outlay.

(as fortunately the same difficulty getting hold of the ultimate edition cheaply now will work in your favour further down the line when you no longer need it / want to sell it PROVIDED you get a copy you're legally allowed to sell/transfer the license on afterwards -windows operating systems do tend to hold their value)

Take a look at this page and pursue the possibility of obtaining a replacement.

  • When I tried to resolve the not genuine it would take to a page to buy a new copy.
I did not know about that page.

The only other thing you can do is contact the person you purchased it from and ask for a refund.

Otherwise buy a legal copy. Why Ultimate out of interest?

tried that, not replying. ebay and paypal are not intrested in anything so far back. i think with paypal they give 45 days to claim.

but if i want to buy a different version i have to wipe my hard drive which i really don't want to do.

Seen this for family pack, good if you can get three of you

Also these, though the feedback is not all theirs, some have just launched, and some comments say they were supplied with a developer version which was only valid for four months. Maybe get it in writing from them that they are full versions, and then show the replies to Amazon to see if they will refund if anything is not correct

Unsuitable. It is an upgrade version only to be used on a computer with Windows XP or above installed.

To comply with licencing, they need to buy the full version, not an upgrade and not the OEM as it isn't a new computer. And no home user really needs Ultimate - Premium will do the job.

How is your PayPal funded? If it is a credit card talk to them. You should be able to either get the transaction reversed or get compensation directly from the CC.

You should maybe start a fresh thread in one of the consumer boards as there will be people on them who actually know whereas I'm guessing.
  • i paid with payapl but from debit card.
i got a reply back from microsoft. thay have said they want to look into my copy.
