Anyone else hit by the Michelangelo virus this year?

It seems to get more evolved each year.
I've really got to learn not to turn my computer on next 6th of March, after getting hit just about every time over the last nineteen years! Next year will be the 20th anniversary, so I'll make it a special occasion by not getting infected for a change.
Remember that McAfee is your best bet to stop this. In fact you could say the whole antivirus is built around stopping this one particular menace, undistracted by lesser malware in its peerless and unsung struggle across the ages against the Michelangelo virus.

Never been infected by this particular strain ( not really been infected full stop )Remember that McAfee is your best bet to stop this..
I guess Avira is doing a very good job also :T
Maybe it is the... ahem... sites that you visit?... :rotfl:
PS: Yes, that was meant as a joke“That old law about 'an eye for an eye' leaves everybody blind. The time is always right to do the right thing.”0 -

I was hiding out given the disagreement over the precise date of his birthday, as I did want to catch any variants of the virus based on alternative historical interpretations!0 -
Huh? The only viruses I've had were on an old (Windows 98) PC that was too painfully slow to run an antivirus. Trying to use a 166MHz MMX CPU and 32MB RAM meant sacrificing security for usability!
If you have been infected by a virus on a respectably fast PC then you probably need to review your security!0 -

I'm surprised you ran 98 on such a relatively outdated machine, was there a benefit?
I held onto the very speedy Windows 95c (only OS that's ever given me a 10 second boot time!) until the last possible moment. I was a late adopter of Windows 98, forced by a lack of legacy support for my AMD K6-III (450Mhz).
I wouldn't have considered Windows 98 for my previous Pentium 233 or Cyrix 6x86 (133Mhz).0 -
virus? I used to get a lot of colds, but quitting smoking kinda stopped those...
computer virus? I remember getting one from an infected Win95 Bootdisk..and another when I downloaded a crack for WinXP without first installing AV... about 10 years agoUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -

No way, for dealing with the Michelangelo virus nobody comes close to dealing with it as effectively as McAfee.
Afterall it was John McAfee himself who realised that 5 million computers were infected with this virus back in 1992. How many do you think will have it now, especially given that only about 4% of computers are running McAfee according to OPSWAT? It must be 5 billion infected! The man knew what he was talking about, so I'd choose the safe option by using the software that bears his name.0 -

Hey Russ, you really should think about changing that 20-year-old hdd

So, you've been hit with a virus for the past 19 Years !!!! and you still use McAfee ??
I think you ought to
a) clear the virus from your PC properly (Assuming it is still there and just raising it's head every year), or
b) get a anti-virus programme that actually blocks and isolates the threat BEFORE your machine is actually infected, or
c) find the source of the infection and stay away, or
d) get a Mac (ok, so this one I'm taking the p*** with :rotfl: )“That old law about 'an eye for an eye' leaves everybody blind. The time is always right to do the right thing.”0
