Eon Huge monthly payment

Eon have just put our direct debit up again by £50. We have let the meter resders in and regularly phone ourselves with the readings, but they have consistently used estimates and now say we owe over £800 due to under estimation. We have phoned them as we don't have this money and cannot afford another £50 per month, we offered an extra £25 as that is all we have, the computer said no. What do we do. I am suicidal.

If you have received bills with estimates when you have submitted readings have you not thought to phone them and ask why? I know thats too late now but its a lesson to learnt. If the 'underpayment' has built up over say 12 months then they would expect to recover it over 12 months. In your case they are recovering it over 16 months.
Now many bill have you had that have been based on estimates?
You say they want an extra £50pm, how much is you current DD?IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Hi pinkichiban,
I really think the first thing to do is to establish why E.ON have not been using your readings or the meter readers readings.
When you have received the estimated bills have you called E.ON and asked for the bill to be re-calculated with your accurate reading? if you have, what did they say when you called?
It sounds like we have now used an accurate reading and this has produced what is called a 'catch up' bill.
If the account is now correct and up to date, I would ask to spread the balance over the length of time that the account had been billed to estimates for.
There should be no problem with this, as you say you have been providing the readings and advising E.ON of this.
If you need any more help, just let me know.

We have complained about estimate bills in the past and that is why we keep phoning in with them, this is a lesson we keep repeating, I have no idea why they keep using estimates. I beleive the estimate bills are to prevent us from switching supplier.

Contacted Home Heat Helpline (0800336699) Wonderful people, couldn't have been more helpful and I now feel normal and am not feeling as though all is lost. Turns out the new bill was also based on an estimate and we actually owe less! Funny how it took an outside agency to sort this out, even though we have contacted them with the correct information and even after this morning's call.
Helena, I do not beleive that work for Eon, you are far too polite and pleasant.0 -

Hi pinkichiban,
I'm glad you seem to have got this sorted, but I do feel we need to find out why E.ON have not been using your readings, you can email me your details WebForumAdvisors@eonenergy.com and I can take a look for you
