Good point. No tax at Century21 for the smaller purchases.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Bloody hell,
Just got in and read all of your comments!
Brilliant, brilliant advice.
I'm just going to have a thorough read through of it all.
Many thanks guys....

I think it would be frustrating to only have 3 days to spend there on a first trip, but on the plus side jet lag only usually badly affects people travelling East so you shouldn't be too tired until after the flight home.0

Look at the Virgin/daily mail offer, it claims flights to NY from £199. Stay for longer if you can perhaps in an apartment, eg http://www.radiocityapts.com/ $469 for your dates for 3 nights.0

I've just received an email from Ba, as i registered with them, for cheap flights for new york and other destinations
if you go to BA.com..you can't get them...but go via this email i got and you can...
URL:- http://book.ba.com/r/BQ91B1/6DGQ/I60F6/3CIKF/I2ID/QR/h
there's a few destinations, select new york, enter your dates, and it comes up with availability from £104 per person each way.
we've just booked for march...£478 all in for 2 return flights

So the BA and VS offers are probably third choice.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
BA, AA, Delta and Continental fly direct from Manchester I think. No one goes long-haul from EMA as far as I know. When I was looking the best deal from MAN was US Airways flying via Philly. I went for Continental direct from Gatwick instead.0

My daughter and I are going to NY at the end of March till 7 April( 10 days in all). We live in the NE so need to change whichever company we went with, booked with KLM (Ncle- NY/JFK via Amserdam with only 1 hr between filghts both ways more or less). Booked through e- bookers and used some nectar points I got for nothing( test drive etc) and it only cost £518.00 including tax. The flight times were our choice and we are delighted with what we have paid. Now we only need to find somewhere to stay, tried the Radio City apartments( as my sister is flying in from Europe too- so apts seem a good idea) but fully booked. All your posts on here are great, knowing where to go to shop is great.Just one question should we declare our shopping as we come back through customs? He who laughs last thinks slowest.
I wished the buck stopped here as I could use a few.
Why do Americans sing "Take me out to the ball game" when they
are already there?0 -
Just seen your post and the helpful replies with regard to costs etc so I won't go into that. The only thing I did wonder about is the timing.
I appreciate you're going as a birthday treat, but personally I don't think a weekend is anywhere near enough time to see even the "mustn't miss" sights!
Having paid that amount of cash, it seems a shame when for only half as much again you could have around 6 nights and really "do" New York (though even then you have to cram it all in).
Have you considered doing Paris for the birthday weekend (how romantic is that??) and then New York when you've got a week to spare?I let my mind wander and it never came back!0
