Magnet vs B&Q Cooke & Lewis Kitchens

We've ran around all the kitchen shops getting as many quotes as possible and we’re now stuck between choosing the Magnet Appleby range or Cooke & Lewis Carisbrooke. (We've a large horseshoe shape kitchen arrangement with 18 units approx)

With trade discount B&Q C&L quote is £4800. At £6500 Magnet quote is over £1500 more but comes with a free integrated dishwasher.
(FYI we’ve not got trade discount on the Magnet quote)

Which kitchen is better quality, is it better to spend more on a Magnet kitchen to end up with a better product? We’ll be using our own kitchen fitter so we’re not reliant on the companies themselves and saving ourselves more money.

We're pretty clueless and it’s a lot of money to spend on the wrong thing - advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!

  • Aren't Magnet kitchen carcases ready made when delivered, rather than flat packs like the B&Q ones? That could save you money on the fitting charge.

We have just had a Cooke & Lewis radcliffe installed. Quality seems good. I haven't seen a magnet kitchen to compare I am afraid but we are happy. The B&Q ones do come flat pack so thats a good point about fitting. Although if you wanted to save the money you could probably assemble the carcases yourself?

Magnet - 18mm Furniture grade MFC rigid built carcase, 15 year guarantee

B&Q - 18mm standard grade MFC flat pack (cam and dowel) carcase, 10 year guarantee

That's the difference in quality for you :)

    Hi Carey_suz

Have you looked at any independent kitchen specialists? Because you should be able to get a German made Schueller kitchen for the same money as what you are looking at from Magnet, and frankly the quality of a Magnet kitchen is nothing compared to a Schueller one. I think it would be worth finding a local Schueller dealer.

    Good luck.
