Im a techie novice but thanks to the info on this website have recently set up my own domain and linked it to a new google mail account.
However I can now send emails on the gmail account but am not receiving any. I am not sure if I have set it up incorrectly or if it just takes longer for sending emails to work (only set it up last night)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You (re)direct an email address by modifying the MX records for the domain. Usually it is done by using a control panel provided by the domain name seller who hosts all the DNS records for your domain. If you didn't do something like that then they'll never arrive.
There can be a delay in it working everywhere because DNS data is held in many places and the servers cache the data. If a change is made you may have to wait until the DNS server you are using refers back to the definitive DNS (ie the master one for your domain and the one you modify) because its earlier (and now incorrect) cached record expires.0 -
Many Thanks, thought I had done it all when I updated DNS, but have just updated MX records, so I shall see what happens.0

I maybe didn't describe it too well in my original post so I'll try to clarify it...
You should have your DNS MX records point to the domain sellers MX servers (or others of your choice) then use the domain sellers (if using their MX servers) control panel to specify what specific redirections you want. I've found that it is better to have a few specific email addresses rather than a catch-all one such that {anything}@my-domain.co.uk arrives in your inbox because catchalls can be spam magnets.0 -
All working now, Thanks0
