It is antiseptic wash, to stop wounds getting infected. Used it on my old doggy girl when she managed to chop the end of her tail off and we had no idea how she did it.
Vet said (Trude off vet school, if anyone remembers) if it got infected she would have to have it amputated. It didn't and wasn't.Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0 -
I have ordered some from viovet. Funny thing is that the 500ml is cheaper than the 250ml..0

Patients can therefore bath or shower (applied undiluted, rather like a shower gel) prior to surgery and include this as part of their post-operative care regime
Despite what a lot of vets seem to do it is not advised for use internally or body cavaties or for open wounds. If you notice on the bottles it has FOR EXTERNAL USE ONLY written on itHibiscrub wrote:4.4 Special Warnings
For external use only. Keep out of the eyes and avoid contact with the
brain, meninges and middle ear. In patients with head or spinal injuries or
perforated ear drum, the benefit of use in pre-operative preparation should
be evaluated against the risk of contact. If chlorhexidine solutions come into
contact with the eyes, wash out promptly and thoroughly with water. Do
not inject or use in body cavities.

We've just gone through a lorry load of the stuff when mutt had her toe amputated. As she was unable to leave the wound alone, and managed to reach the foot and chew off the bandage on a daily basis even with two buster collars on (don't ask!) we had to use it to wash her foot with to get rid of the doggy slurp before rebandaging.
I don't think I'd keep a supply in the first aid kit though, generally speaking I'd just use water for day to day stuff. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
