Outstanding Cheque

I want to close my Santander bank account but I wrote a cheque for £175 on the 21 Jan this year.
I have no means of contacting the person the cheque was written to and I'm not trying to avoid paying, but I don't want Santander to be my current account either and I think I will be charged if I underfund this account, so:
What should I do, how can I close this account?

If you know the cheque number, you can ask Santander to stop the cheque, if the person cashes the cheque later on it will not be paid but you could explain the situation that you changed banks and thought it had already been cashed. They obviously cannot be that desperate for the funds if it has been 2 months and the cheque is still outstanding!
Cheques are only valid for 6 months unless stated.0 -
How about setting up the new current account you want but leaving the funds to cover this cheque in this one?0

I have got a new account, and I was planning on doing this until the cheque was 7 months old and then closing the account.
But Santander charge a fee for underfunding of £2 a month, not much, but still could be £10 over the time. Wouldn't be so bad if faster payment system worked as I could just transfer money in and out same day, but it takes 3 days to get my money back from SantanderOpinions are like bottoms - We all have one, just some stink more than others

No, it shouldn't but so far never been able to send any amount, even £10 via faster payments! Plus I need to pay in £1000 a month to avoid the fee. Guess it goes back to what most people say about banking with Santander..... Don't lolOpinions are like bottoms - We all have one, just some stink more than others

I would just pay to cancel/stop the cheque. Close Santander account and hopefully the person when it comes to cashing it in will get in touch chasing you for payment. Would be better to warn other person before doing this but at least you can close the account in the meantime.0
