We moved into our house (3bed terraced) in October and currently its only got electric. Its electric underfloor heating in the living room and hall, (installed 40 odd years ago when house was built)
Convectors heaters upstairs and one storage heater, plus a tiny bathroom heater.
Immersion heater for water which ends up getting left on as there is no timer.
We are trying to decied whether to get gas connected and installed? What are your thoughts.
Electric bill from 18Nov-8Mar was £553
Quote for gas installation plus gas pipe connection is about £6000-£7000
We plan on staying here for sometime.
All feedback appreciated.

On top of that your are going to have to add about £2500-3000 to get GSH installed.
There are two main benefits to gas; cheaper per kwh and more flexible (proce is same all day).
It is probably unlikely that you will recoup the money unless you stay in the house a very long time but there are two things to consider; your currently heating may need replacing due to age and GSH will increase the value of the house.
Given the high cost I am assuming they have to run the gas pipe a long way from the mains to your house, therefore you may want to approach you neighbours (who I assume dont have gas) to see if they are interested in getting gas which may allow you to split the costs.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.
