HSBC are generally OK, but it annoys me i have to use their stupid machiens for depositing money all the time, plus the most convenient branch i can get to is 4 miles away from me, and even then i can only get there on saturdays...
Now, most of their branches these days have very few staff, no counters, and you have to do everything via their automated machines, including depositing money. which i hate doing via their machines.
so im after a bank, which ideally lets you deposit money via the post office (local post office only 5 mins walk away from home so easy to get to), should also have easy to use internet banking, and postal statements should you need them
does such a bank exist?

Go to the Post Office and get a leaflet on the banks you can use there. They have several types of leaflet but one of them compares the various banks and thes services you can get at the Post Office.0

Just found the leaflet online:

I believe Alliance & Leicester and Barclays (or is it Lloyds?) you can use the Post Office for deposits.
I know nothing about Barclays as I stay well clear of them, but A&L have a PremierPlus Current Account that pays 5% (fixed until 31/12/05) if you can deposit £1000 a month. If you can't then they do a Premier Current Account for a lower rate.0 -
Lloydstsb give you £50 for joining (and £50 to a friend if they are with lloyds and refer you)
Their rate is 4% for paying in £1000 a month and the online service is fantastic, cant help you with the post office bit though
Their 4.5% online saver is nice for instant (and i mean instant) access too0 -
poochie, a useful account for depositing postally (in pre-paid envelopes) is 'NetSave Instant III' account of Coventry Building Society.
It pays 4.85% and can be used to make Standing Order and BACS payments. These take the usual 2 banking days, same as from the best of the main banks.0 -
thanks for the replies. Will check out the Post Office leaflet.
Another question: when you need to get credit checked for something (eg mobile phone contract) they often ask for bank statements. If its an online bank like Cahoot can you just print out their statements or do you have to request a statement from them?
Final question: if you need to withdraw large amounts of money can you do so from the post office or is it via arrangement only?0
