Skoda "VAT Free" offer

A family member is looking at ordering a new Skoda Roomster while the offer of "VAT Free" is still on.

I am aware that this is a discount equal to the VAT amount, but was wondering who actually pays for this discount.

Is it Skoda UK, does it come out of the supplying dealers margin, or a combination of the 2?

Would be interesting to know before negotiations begin.

Thanks

I imagine it's a manufacturers offer, though the dealer may claim otherwise. But it's possible that any car bought under the scheme has a lower margin than normal. Don't forget to check Drive The Deal, Broadspeed and Carfile.

Autoebid and carfile leading the way at the moment. Nearly £3k off list with the options included.

Be aware though that that is effectively the mass disposal of an old engine type that they are doing away with - although thats still a cracking deal!!!

Also, the O/P has asked RE: a Roomster.

From Skodas Website (and a 30 second browse around it) the no VAT offer is still on and is applied to the following cars -

applied to the original base price including factory fitted optional extras on all Fabia, Roomster, petrol Octavia and petrol Superb new car retail orders taken before 3 April 2011. Reduction applied to the RRP including factory fitted optional extras. VAT is still applicable and will be shown on the customer invoice. Offer may be varied or withdrawn at anytime and is subject to availability.

A bit more research has found this info from another forum when the offer was on last March

"We only retain a small margin with the VAT deal as the discount is split between dealer and manufacture support"

So I assume a little room for haggling, but not masses.

    Cheers
  • Hi Greenstick,
I'm not entirely sure who pays for the discount, however I have used Autoebid before and got an amazing deal on my FIAT!
    Good luck.

Well thats true. I guess you have to weigh up higher economy and better emissions of a newer engine against the cost of this car.

Hell, its almost a 'buy it now' price!!

That's about the same you would get of you negotiated with the dealer direct.
