Can I reverse/charge-back an old transaction?

Hi all,

Strange one here ... I registered for Groupon a while back and while most of their deals are not applicable to me...one was late last year.

I went for it, paid the near £200 on credit card and that's about as far as I have got! I've been trying to contact the company and I've had nothing back from them via email nor can I get intouch with phone.

Contacted Groupon who gave me the company in question's email add+phone which was the same ones I had.

After failing again, I then contacted Groupon again who have got back to me yesterday saying simply they are aware of the situation and will get back to the customers as soon as they hear more.

Now my gut feeling is the company is no longer active even though the site exists etc.

So what's the chance of trying to get Halifax to reverse the transaction?

Thanks!
AJ

I bought a service through groupon and when I went to the location at the agreed time, the premises was closed even though it was quite early in the day and they didn't answer the phone. I emailed groupon and they refunded the amount plus £6 compensation to my groupon account. I'm not sure about if they would refund the money to your bank account but it's worth asking them.

    Interesting! Thanks for that
Maybe that may be what they mean by "As soon as we have any development, we will contact all customers concerned. "

Initially I was thinking it would be great to have the service for my birthday time but I just want my money back now given the issues!

I understand chargeback has a 120 day time limit.

Must be some sort of protection against all this though right? Thought that's one of the few benefits of having a credit card?

Its difficult because you used Groupon as an intermediary and therefore have no legal relationship with the supplier, if you'd bought the Goods/Services direct then Section 75 would apply (assuming that the usual criteria for S.75 are met)

Generally from what I've seen groupon do refund people where there is a problem.
However you have to give them a chance to investigate it for themselves.

Sounds good - I'll wait in that case and see how things pan out
May have to see how things go next week if nothing has moved further - I don't want a case of waiting too long and lose out completely

    Thanks for the help/advice
