I have had two for stair lifts, but they were three years ago, think with the cuts they are getting harder to get. My OT got mine.

  • Sorry to jump in,but does anyone know if a DFG can be used for disabled access i.e lowered kerb so I can get the car to the door for my disabled mum?

    Regards

We had a DFG for a dropped kerb, driveway put down and b2 bedrooms knocked into 1 as when the wheelchair came out of the lift it couldn't go through the doorway from the back bedroom to the front.

If I remember right it was Feb this year we applied.....OT made referral for stair lift and shower.....seems there was quite a waiting list.
Few weeks ago lady from council came out, measured the bathroom (stairs had been measured months prior to this) and filled in forms then we waited for plans to be sent so we could approve and send back s.a.p.
So now we wait for what happens next. I haven't been asked to get any quotes from builders so assume the council do all that themselves.
It also appears we have to have a wet room whether we want one or not. I'd have preferred just a walk in shower but councils tend not to do these now I was told.
I'm thinking we just might get all this in time for Christmas:)
I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

The council have a list of approved builders to do their DFG works, but you can have a builder of your choice if you want, but if he is dearer than their biulders you will have to pay the difference...............

Also may I just add, that if you own your own home the council will have it put on the land registry that if you move out within the next 10 yrs that you will have half of what the buildings works cost for the adaptations deducted from the sale..... You can see why they do that because it costs a lot to adapt a home and if you sell it soon as the works are completed the council would be out of pocket...........................as ive said previously the wait to get works done are long winded because of all the cut backs this April.........you may have to be very patient.......
