Just an update really still gone with the flower bed idea opposed to the grassy bit laiden with concrete area. I couldn't wait till payday so went to a local builders merchants yesterday and ordered half a ton of sharp sand, 20 'buff' slabs and a sheet to put under the sand. I was also told to buy a bag of cement to sprinkle on after. Its being delivered today, I can't wait to get cracking. Its hubbys day off and he's been really enthusiastic prepping the area so hoping it comes soon we can make a start. Fingers crossed it turns out well, will let you all know how it went. Beautiful day for it :j

Well we worked hard all day thursday and it was all laid by early evening. A neighbour came to help hubby which really helped. Its not quite level with the paving slabs as we dug a bit to deep and ran out of sand but I am happy with it. Hubby has another day off today so he's going to finish it off and lay stones around the edges (it was to near foundations to go against the wall).

In regards to laying the stones we can't agree on the best way to do it. He just wants to put stones on the sand thats been left around the edges but I think we should lay some more protective mat and place stones on top. Any ideas of whats best?

Thank you to everyone on this forum for there help and advice, if it hadn't been for this we wouldn't have had the confidence to have a go!
