UPDATE 17 September 2004: It would appear that this has now been brought over to the UK version of eBay and therefore there is no need to follow the advice below anymore.
I don't believe this to be illegal as it is shown on eBay's website.
When you look at an item and click on bid history all the bid amount are replaced with "-" until the end of the auction.
To view these amounts before the auction ends when viewing the item change
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....
in the address bar to
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI....
And then click on the bid history. The bid amounts will be shown.

This worked fine for me and I could see all the bid amounts on a number of auctions just make sure you only replace the .co.uk with .com.
Thanks! ;D0 -
it didnt work for me first time, but when i then went into the bidding page, then changed it to '.com' it did show the bids.......

You have to be on the actual item listing (where the pictures, description etc. are) not on the bid history when you change the .co.uk to .comAlex Jones0

Didn't work for me; kept changing back to .co.uk0

I can be thick but I don't get why this is a good thing!! You get to see a starting bid and the current bid and can work out the increments these have gone up in by the number of bids - I don't see the advantage of seeing the actual bids unless you could see their max bid. tell me please because when I'm not on here generally on ebay if not simultaneously.0

Thanks for this Alex ;D V sneaky! I just had a look at a pair of boots I was watching.... started at £4.99 and saw the bid had bumped up to £12.60 in just 3 bids! So just interesting to see how the bidding goes, I suppose..
