Embarrassing Paypal problem

I use Ebay and Paypal regularly - not daily, but a few times a month. My account is verified and I have had no negarive feetbacks on Ebay, etc.
This weekend I was bidding on one item, and while I waited for that to finish I got something else BIN. Fantastic, 2 items I want at good prices. But then when I went to pay for the BIN item Paypal need me to verify my card. My account itself is verified but I hadn't expected, or had any warning, that I would need to verify my card too???
I have contacted the seller, and the one for the other item that I won as well, and both are being very understanding, but I felt terrible:o Had Paypal given me warning time, like with verifying the accound, I wouldn't have been in this position.
Has anyone else had this? If not, maybe its a new thing so might be worth keeping an eye open in case it causes you trouble too.

Thanks but no its not that, I think youre describing Verified by Visa, which you get a lot with online purchaces, but this is specifically Paypal. I have had it before where you give them your bank details, they send you 2 small payments and you confirm the amounts? Well this is to confirm my card (which has been used n the account for ages with no problems) and they are debiting £1, I then need to put the reference from my bank statement into Paypal and they will recredit the £1.0 -
They do usually give you warning but it is quite hidden away and if you don't notice th elittle box when you log in it is easy not to be aware they want more details.
There will be details on how to verify the card, alternatively paypal may allow you to use a different source if your bank account is linked for instance.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. The 'warning' was there when I logged in, I suppose you could say, but as I only log in when I need to pay for something it was a bit late! And again, it seems simple enough, just inconvenient and embarrassing to have to ask the sellers to hang on for payment - I always pay immediately and feel guilty not being able to.
The account is attatched to a different bank account but I have no money in it at the moment:o and transferring to it would take as long as waiting to get my debit card verified.0 -

The other part about being 'embarrassed' I'd like to reassure you if I can that most sellers on eBay do understand and are very willing to wait for payment when you explained your situation.You see, the situation from the seller's point of view is a little different;
In my earlier days on eBay I had a buyer who contacted me saying she did not realise her PayPal account was empty and she was moving money from her bank account. My first reaction was, oh no problems, I don't know if this buyer is telling the truth or if some funny business was going on. But payment is marked 'pending' on the sales order and I received a note from PayPal confirming the fact that money was being transferred and giving the expected date. I was completely reassured and of course the buyer paid and the transaction was fine.
Now I know that if I have a message asking me to wait for payment from a buyer that's NOT accompanied by those actions by PayPal, I go ahead as soon as possible (4 days) to open a Non-Payment Case.0 -
Thankfully the reference came through today so outstanding bills were paid within 10minutes of me waking this morning!:D Very touched to have already had positive feedback from one seller praising my 'prompt payment' and detailed communication:D0
