I would rather we spend the money helping the Japanese."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Where is Lybia?
Is it near Labia?
Ohhh...you mean Libya!British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
Sheer madness. I wonder what the closet Prophet-botherer Obama has already agreed with the Fundamentalists following regime change in Libya. You can be sure he's got some scheme to disadvantage Europe and boost the caliphate!0

I much prefer the Hitchins approach to this situation...

We will rue the day we got involved in yet another crisis.
We cant afford Imperialism any more but then we have to placate the yanks who are still smarting about the scots turning the Lockerbie bomber free.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
I read that USA is giving money to these groups and no doubt the CIA are giving them advice.
We may not like Gaddaffi but it is a legitimate regime and has until recently been a stable country friendly to the UK. I find it strange how these terrorists are called opposition freedom fighters. IMHO there is one muslim faction fighting another muslim faction who currently have control. Is that any different to the Catholics fighting to gain control from the Protestants who control NI? Oh in case we forget, USA gave money and arms to the IRA as well.
Why is it so important for us to interfere in this civil war when we ignore so many others?"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

It's nice to see the UK really pulling their weight (not). A Trafalgar class sub only carries about 16 Tomahawk. Not a large amount out of the 110 fired (assuming all were used). If he fired the lot then he is now on his way back to the UK to re-arm.
UK, a one shot wonder!
And when it comes to air strikes, the US can put up more aircraft from a single carrier than we and the rest of the allies can afford to send to the area in totalThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I agree with your first point
Do you really believe MacAskill arranged the release of Megrahi without encouragement from Westminster? I have no doubt the Whitehouse gave their blessing too. When the public objected it suits them to blame it on the jocks."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

I suspect the that's simply about a quick response and the logistics of forces already overstretched elsewhere. Cruise missiles can be fired and forgotten from our smaller ships offshore.C_Mababejive wrote: »I much prefer the Hitchins approach to this situation...

Right on the money. What we should have done is just wait it out and issue noncommittal statements saying we were concerned about the situation, hoped for minimal casualties, peace and stability, etc and that we wished to remain a friend to the Libyan people.0
