Holiday insurance - just for one night

My kids have booked us a one-night in a very posh hotel in London as a gift in a few weeks time, however my mother is ill and there's always a risk I might have to rush off at the last minute to go to be with her .
I've never had holiday insurance before so please could anyone recommend where to find insurance for just that one night. As it's a gift I would hate my kids to have wasted the money if we have to cry off.
Thanks

I dont think you will find any to be honest, just for the reason that your mum is ill now, pre existing if you see what i mean, it would be the one thing that would be excluded from any holiday insurance, this is one of the things they ask you, then they tell you that it wont be covered. No point in even trying.
Even if you could, the premium would be expensive, the excess would be horrendous, it would probably come out just as expensive as the hotel stay. You would in effect be paying for your own 'holiday'
Just go with the flow for now, hope your mum will be okay.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

What are the terms of the booking? Hotel bookings are often cancellable late with no charge - even up to the day of arrival.0 -
The hotel does have a cancellation policy and recommends insurance. I thought the pre-existing bit just related to the people going on the holiday, didn't realise it meant others too. Just as well I never buy insurance, I would end up paying up when I'm not even insured anyway!
We've decided to go for the obvious solution, don't know why we didn't think of it before. If we have to cancel at the last moment, we'll pay for it but tell the kids we were insured so they'll never know. We'll then go another time and pay ourselves.
Obvious really - stupid me!
Thanks everyone, yet another learning curve clambered up!.

You may have life insurance which can for anywhere, whether you are in hotel or traveling any where.0

ive just received an email from wanderlust travel mag, saying you can save 10% off insurance with Insure and Go - from checking out the website they cover pre-existing medical conditions, (Ive been in a similar situation myself!) you may want to check on the one night insurance though?
heres the link with the offer in, hope this is of help.
