Anyone good with recipes?

Odd, perhaps, but my partner has been away for a couple of days attending to some family stuff, which never bodes well for her mood... and well, I've missed her so I thought I'd make a nice dinner. She won't be back until around 10ish I think.

However, my leg has decided today is one of its off days, so driving to the store isn't going to happen and I am left with what we have in the house - which I suppose fits in with money saving.

I have some chicken breast fillets - but I'm looking to concoct a sauce or marinade to go with them for flavour. We currently seem to be out of onions and garlic, which are my two main go to moves, but we do have some spices like paprika, some herbs like basil and both normal and tinned tomatoes.

Most of the recipes I've found online though are calling for ingredients, such as onion and garlic, that I don't have.

Sooooo, can anyone concoct anything out of that? It is possible I might have any other ingredients that would be needed - there's plenty of cheese, potatoes, bacon, salt, pepper etc. And I have got things like red wine if anyone knows of a suitable recipe that includes that.

You could make a nice sauce out of some chopped bacon, fried, a splash of red wine, some tinned tomatoes, a pinch of sugar, some seasoning and maybe some paprika if you fancy a bit of spice. Just simmer it till it's thick, then maybe pour it over the chicken breasts and bake, covered, until the chicken is done (30 mins ish, depends how big your fillets are). That would be nice with something like a baked potato and some green veg.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

We don't have any baked potatoes but I do have some small, new potatoes that I could use.

With the new potatoes you could quarter them, toss them in 2 tablespoons of olive oil, ground black pepper and a little salt (optional) and pop them in the oven for 35 minutes or so.

    They will make nice wedges.

You could even put a little of the paprika in for added pizzazz.

Also, try asking on the Old-Style board, they're very good at concocting recipes.

And finally - what a lovely thought!
I'm sure your partner will be made up.

Thanks very much, that sounds a good idea too :)

As you may be able to tell, while I can cook, I'm not very good at making my own recipes!
