In 2012, all Analog relay sites will also switch to Freeview (the 3 Mux version) so at switchover, wherever you are, you will have a greatly increased chance of getting the 6 Mux service from one of the main transmitters (Divis, Limavady or Brougher Mountain) and if you have any analog reception at all (most do) the transmitter you currently are being served by will convert to digital at switchover date. If you have a set-top-box or integrated TV capable of Mpeg4 (needed for Freeview HD, only available in 6 Mux areas) then you may also be able to watch the Soarview channels from ROI already as long as you currently get some kind of analog reception from ROI.

At the weekend, my mother in Law brought a new, reasonably priced, Samsung TV for her holiday home at Cranfield, analog TV is from Benagh and by a stroke of luck we got Soarview channels too (6 TV channels I seem to remember including E3). The analog reception from the ROI transmitter was incredibly poor but the digital was 100%.

Wherever you are in NI, there is really no need to panic about DSO, if you get analog pictures now, as long as you have digital equipment, you'll get digital after switchover.
Also, don't be tempted to have pre-emptive aerial work done, even if freeview reception is currently marginal, after DSO, power levels will be much higher than current levels and reception will improve. There will be some unscrupulous companies who will scaremonger saying you need to upgrade for digital, this is not true, most current aerials will be fine post switch-over.

Thanks for the advice everyone -we currently have Sky Multiroom but was looking for something that we could use as a standalone for one of the kids bedrooms - cant watch POPGIRL any longer lol.

    Thanks everyone!

If you have Sky multiroom, and a free port left on the sky dish (they normally have 4), you can run a cable to the kid's room and put in a £30 Freesat box from Argos, they will get Popgirl on that..

I've since been informed that all the Derry people claiming to receive Freeview are in fact getting the signal from Limavady and that the Sherriff's Mountain transmitter does not currently transmit digital Freeview signals but will next year after analogue switch-off. I am thus much more optimistic about the future of broadcast TV in the North-west!

That's exactly right, Only Divis, Limavady and Brougher Mountain currently transmit Freeview (6 Mux) on low power. Sheriff's Mountain is currently analogue only and will convert to digital (3 Mux) at switchover. You will however be better off trying to get Limavady if you can as this will provide the 6 Mux service and HD whereas Sheriff's Mountain will only provide the 3 Mux service.
