He says - Because I pay you, and if you don't want to work here I can find someone else who does.

They get us all ways dont they. Thanks to all who replied, think I am looking for a new job! - and outside the UK, cant wait to leave the asylum!

If you are hoping to find somewhere with better employment legislation then you are very limited in where you can look.

Isnt the 29th a BH therefore he has to pay you for it. He would if he didnt give the minimum holidays though. Its 20 days plus bank holidays so to me that means the 29th should be paid.
== 29 April is a bank holiday but it is not the case that the employer has to pay for it if it is not worked

== the OP said they received 20 days plus 8 bank holidays, not "plus bank holidays"

== and you know that the statutory right is not to 20 days plus bank holidays but to 5.6 weeks which can include bank holidays

I think it's a public holiday not a bank holiday which is different.

My work is giving it extra, full timers will get 7.5 hours added on and part timers pro rata.
If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in :D

Great!! Thanks to the government I am the loser as usual! The boss wins every time, I get minimum wage, get told when I can take time off, no perks, and I have just read all of my contract and apparantly overtime is also mandatory (he has to give 48 hours notice) and apparantly its unpaid as well so looks like I can say farewell to my weekends! AArrrgg....sorry to rant

you are not losing out at all, you are getting paid for not working, you also have another 15 days to choose for yourself after taking into acount the bank holidays and the 4 days you must keep for chrimbo. Only 281 more sleeps by the way.
    Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.

He has told us he is not treating 29th April as a public holiday and he is not paying us for it but has told us he is closing the company and that we have to take it as annual leave, we dont want to be forced to take it, we have accepted that our contracts mean we dont have to be paid, but he is going outside our contracts to force us not to work.

If it is taken as annual leave from your allowance then he will be paying for it.

If you don't take it as annual leave you are actually being allowed to work fewer hours over the year to earn the same paid leave.

Stop moaning then and become your own boss!
The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
