    Great!! Thanks to the government I am the loser as usual! The boss wins every time, I get minimum wage, get told when I can take time off, no perks, and I have just read all of my contract and apparantly overtime is also mandatory (he has to give 48 hours notice) and apparantly its unpaid as well so looks like I can say farewell to my weekends! AArrrgg....sorry to rant

    Have you just started with this company? As you don't seem that aware of your terms of employment etc, if you have been doing overtime unpaid and on minimum wage you can reclaim the underpayment, just search for the .gov page on miminum wage (i would put the link up but I'm on my phone and its a pain)
  • No been working there quite a while, but he issues new contracts every couple of years and we have no choice but to accept them and no very remiss but I have never read it thoughroughly before now.
  • Just asked my wife and she is on a 'management contract' as her place of work and she too has to work unpaid mandatory overtime, is this the latest management tecnique to get free work??, she earns well over miniumum wage so dont suppose she can do anything about it.

    She needs to calculate her hourly rate to ensure she is actually over minimum, some companies do hide behind salaries and think they can get away with paying less that way, however legally this is not allowed either, hourly/salary has to be over the minimum wage.

    IME most companies do this. Once you are working at a certain level and with the salary to match - you dont get paid overtime or travelling time etc - it just seems an expected part of the role.

    I was explaining to someone recently that I would NOT be apllying for a supervisory vacancy that came up at work -despite the fact I have plenty of managementl experience in other jobs- as I had calculated how much "extra hours" were expected and it actually brought the hourly rate down below my current rate.

    perks arent a given right but an extra, i dont get no perks either but it doesnt bother me

    Those who are spouting on about mandatory unpaid overtime being illegal, have abviously never worked for cr4p employers on minimum wage.

    The issue is not that it's illegal, rather that your card will be marked if you do not do it. If you start to go on about your 'rights' you can bet you won't last long!

    I actually worked in a junior management role for such a company, and one of the senior managers actually said to me (I'm paraphrasing here), 'We like to employ thick people on minimum wage, because they are desperate for the work and so we can get away with making them do allsorts:mad::eek::mad:.

    Needless to say, I didn't stay long with that company!

  • Perks may be an extra and not a right, if perks dont bother you fine, just pointing out I dont get nowt, even the perk of 'THANK YOU' would be nice
