Praise for Toby Carvery

Me and my friend took our children to toby Carvery in colwick, nottingham this evening and I waited with her son in the highchair and mine hile she got her food. She was gone for a good fifteen minutes, during which time I had become a bit worried as to what was taking so long.
She said there were two chefs but only one carving very slowly, whilst making dirty jokes such as "have some of my juicy breast" to the man she was serving, then left a queue of people while she went and got a drink, then began chatting to another member of staff whilst the queue remained before eventually coming back to serve.
me and my 2 year old went up, and we were the only people behind the guy being served, where I can only presume it was the same chef, was also making similar jokes to the "customer" (probably a mate of hers) who was reciprocating with comments such as "yeah that juicy wet meat is really arousing me". when I was actually served they were quite slow.
Came back to my table and told my friend, the waitress overheard and took our meals off the bill (£15.50) and knocked £1 off each pudding, so 3 drinks, 2 carverys, 2 puddings and some garlic bread only cost £12! thought that was great service, and the manager even came to apologise too. I think the discount was very generous and think the chef got spoken too aswell.

I hardly think that this is worth posting a thread praising Toby.
Sorry, but you seem easily pleased.
Last time I went to a Toby the meat was so tough it was inedible. I pointed it out to the member of staff dealing with us and he only charged us for the veggie carvery. But the last thing I did was post on here praising them.
That was over six months ago and I haven't been back since.0 -
sorry if you don't think it's worth posting, I see threads on here all the time that I think the same of.
the reason I posted is because the board is entitled "Praise, Vent and Warnings", and it tends to be more complaints than anything.
I wouldn't say I was particularly easily pleased, but I do think that knocking £17.50 off our bill was over and above what they could have done especially as we didnt even complain ourselves the waitress heard us and informed the manager, and the food itself was really nice we enjoyed it.
in future feel free to just pass a thread by if its not to your liking0 -
So where is this juicy breast on offer again?0

The carvery acknowledged something went wrong and made a good gesture as a result. Plenty of places wouldn't do that, so credit where it's due to this Toby.
The OP didn't even have to ask people to sniff her gravy.0 -

We went to a Toby back in Jan when the snow was bad.
Sat down and the waitress said 'Thanks for coming out in weather like this, as a thank you the carvery is only £5 and all desserts are only £1.'
Well happy!!!!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why then you're as thick and stupid as the moderators on here - MSE ForumTeam0 -
You get what you pay for and the only places comparible on price with Toby are the chain burger and chicken places, and wetherspoons and if I had to choose it would be Toby pretty much every time.0

Must admit I quite like these chain carveries. Our local one is actually a Crown, and I can take the boy I look after, both of us get as much food as we want (usually 3 plates of veg for 3yr old!) plus a drink each for under a tenner, can't even do that in the Wimpy plus its 'food' rather than chips!!!0

I too think that it was a very thoughful gesture, and one that you're likely to remember and therefore return.0 -
Interesting - never tried the Toby; but must do next time I'm passing through Old Windsor, where I know there's one.0
