Computeach training

Not sure if this is the right place to post this.....?????
Having been made redundant over 6 months ago I have looked at various new career paths (having some money behind me and being 35 I have had the luxury to look around a bit but am now starting to miss an income).
My latest search has taken me to look at Computeach (I am sure most on this board have heard of them) who provide home learning training packages with qualification in various areas of IT.
My question (to those more IT literate than myself) is this....are Computeach any good and do they actually get me something (ie the qualification) that on its own will help me get a relevant job within the IT sector ?
Are they value for money or is there a cheaper way of doing this (ie a competitor or books etc) ?
TIA,
Mr_F

I wouldn't waste your money - the courses (which usually cost £1000's) are seriously overpriced. I doubt that [m]any people walk straight into an IT job after doing these type of distance learning courses, the potential wages they promise in the adverts are in cloud cuckoo land. A lot of IT jobs are being offshored atm, so it's not a very good time to get into IT.
You may as well get a home study course for £100-200 from amazon.
What do you want to do in IT?

What TNG said."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

I used to work for a finance company that provided loans for computeach customers - the salesman in the home would ring us up and pretend to be calling a non existant college 'to see if there was a place on the course' though what he was actually doing was relaying the individuals details to see if they would be approved for a loan - it stank to high heaven, and I left that company shortly afterwards. If their courses are anything like their ethics I'd keep clear of computeach.0

OMG that's awful and yet not too surprising. My brother left details once to find out about courses and talk about hardselling they called couple of times every day for ages before they got the message he wasn't interested anymore. I didn't want to really make much of a comment about them as I don't know too much but from what I've previously heard they're essentially just a loans company with a twist."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Put your money into training as a 'digital' aerial fitter ready for the switch-off or become a tantric crystal healer. Avoid IT at all costs!0

If you're considering Computeach, do a bit of research first with Google. The majority of stories about them are bad.
Based on other people's experiences, I wouldn't use them. You're better off doing a course at your local education college or the Open University.0 -
Thanks very much to all for your replies (you realised my worst concerns).
From what I know about sales I smelt a red herring when they dont tell you anything over the phone but insist on sending an 'IT specialist' around to your house for a 2hr appointment, ask questions like "is your wife going to be in?" and tell you that the 'IT specialist' will ring to confirm appointment 2 days prior to appointment (ie validating his lead) !!!!!!
Was hoping I was wrong but based on all your comments I shall be on phone tomorrow morning to cancel next Weds appointment. Thanks again to all (amcluesent - love the idea about digital aerial fitting, real food for thought).

Try these - a friend of mine has completed a course with them and advised that they were very helpful0
