car write off insurance confused.com

I recently had a crash in my little mg zr 03 registration ..totally my fault ... but the insurance have written it off. I got a letter today with a cheque for £750 saying they had taken my excess off which was £450 (i didnt think i would be needing it so i didnt mind it being high) anyway the letter says please accept interim payment without prejudice ..what does this mean I still have £550 to pay on the finance of the car so I am really gutted at this settlement. I didnt expect them to send me a cheque as they havent really spoken to me about the offer.just a little confused I have never had to make a claim on any car I have had other than the windscreen

  • Call them up and dispute the offer - DO NOT CASH THE CHEQUE. This is what I did for a fairer offer to me for my recent write off.

They should have called you regarding this and not just sent a cheque through; probably done it to tempt you to cash in straight away
  • thanks I was confused still am really ..I will ring them tomorrow :T

Why an interim offer? Is someone else making a claim from you or was someone injured?

Check what the average value of the car was before the accident, use Parkers:

  • Usually the term "interim offer" infers that cashing the cheque is not deemed acceptance of the offer. You can cash the cheque but still reject the offer (usually within 14 days).
