Felix or Iams, the lesser of 2 evils

Options
Evening all,

just looking for some advice on which wet cat food to buy. Pets At Home have a great offer on on both Felix and Iams wet food in large packaging.

I know the likes of Bozita etc. is higher recommended, but this offer is too good to ignore and our Maisie has been eating Felix for months without problems, she loves it (though she pretty much loves any kind of food she can get her paws onto).

Personally I think Iams might be the better of the 2, but would love some better informed opinions.

we feed our cat iams and his coat has never been so good (he was on go kat and whiskers when we got him) the vet is happy with feeding him a mix of iams dried food and the odd wet pouch as a treat.

Iams dry has much higher meat content than Felix but I would strongly recommend feeding wet food over dry. Cats on dry only diets are at risk of bladder problems; feeding at least some wet food every day is the best choice but if you go with dry only then take other measures to ensure your cat's water intake - use water fountains, place more water bowls and add water to the food.

Sorta answered my own question after some digging. Felix only has 4% meat content and is packed with artificial colourings, flavourings and sugar. We'll never be buying that again after reading exactly what's in it. Iams is a lot better with 30% meat content, but is still isn't great and has sugars in it. Probably going to stick to the better quality food, Maisie is happily eating Bozita now, might just mix in a bit of Oreijen dry food or similar to bring the cost down a little. The Iams is still rather tempting though as it does't seem awful, and it's on offer at a tenner for 40 pouches...

I don't know if it's the same with wet as dry, or whether your cats are mainly outdoor or indoor, but my mainly indoor cats were on dry IAMS - and their litter box STANK to high heaven... I'm never feeding them it again.

Yeah and I found that out after I bought two bags for my cats, and was gutted. Would never have bought it if I'd known that.

Royal Canin don't test on animals like that do they? Apart from the 'taste test' they must conduct on cats/dogs etc.

Not as far as I know. They're owned by Mars which is obviously just a food company, unlike Iams which is owned by P&G, who are amongst other things a drug company so of course fund animal testing...

Aaargh - why aren't Crown pet foods on the cruelty free PETA list? they make james wellbeloved and royal canin.

I have just emailed them to ask if they test on animals and if not, why aren't they on the list.
Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!

Thank you for the link, I had no idea. I stopped using felix a while ago thanks to MSE, I am so glad I did. This should be 'out-there' in a major way.
