I had this problem many years ago,what happened was I got a printout from the machine.However there was not enough information on the slip so i asked an advisor for further information.after gaining the further information,i told him the position wasn't suitable and i would go back to the machine and carry on searching.
A fortnight later, I was sent a letter saying my benefit was being sanctioned.I stormed down to the benefits office and asked the advisor the reason why i was being sanctioned.
I was informed it the job i had previously inquired about which I didnt follow up, (apparently if you enquire about a job and even if it is not suitable, your duty bound to apply for it). The advisor went even further, saying i was perfectly qualified for the job and had i applied I was almost 100% certain to get it.
I then explained the reason why i was perfectly qualified for the job but 100% certain NOT to get it, was because it was the job I had just been sacked from! By this point i had got extremly angry with the advisor and had started threatening him. smugly he then said I would still lose my benefit for threatening him and he had a witness (there was one other advisor in the office at that point)
told him "i don't think so, you've fooked up again, your colleague is my sister!"
The look on his face was priceless!
However anyway the point is,some job centre staff have no limits when it comes to trying to stop someones benefits.0 -

I'm afraid this does not stack up.
If anybody is deemed to have potentially refused to apply for a job, turned a job offer down or not done enough to seek work in their benefit weeks, they would be given paperwork to complete by the Job Centre which then gets sent to a DM. The paperwork gives the customer a chance to write down all they have done, or reasons why they have not done something. It's not just a case of the Job Centre having a word in a DM's ear.
The Decision Makers often write to the customer asking for more information.
The other thing which doesn't quite stack up - you say it was the job you had been sacked from. I'm assuming then the DM's are also looking at this for potentially sanctioning you again, if they haven't already done so? If they sanctioned you for refusing to apply for your old job they would also have sanctioned your for leaving it as there would have been no good cause for either, in which case you would be on hardship and you do not menton this (and I'm sure you would have). If they deemed you to have 'good cause' in being dismissed they would not have sanctioned you for refusing to apply for it again. I assume you put this information on thr RE paperwork the Job Centre gave you?
Kevin, did you write all these steps down on the paperwork the Job Centre gave you before it was sent to a DM? DM's will also look at what you did in the previous 2 weeks also. Personally I would not have submitted this for ASE, but the point is that whatever the member of the Job Centre thinks is basically not relevant because the Sector Decision Maker will look at the evidence and make their decision based upon the law.
To be blunt, if somebody irritated a member of staff to the point where they wanted to stop their money, they couldn't. That's the whole idea of independent decision makers so people cannot be stitched up as it were.0
