Airbags - are they legally necessary?

    my airbag sensor has played up for at least 6 years, i get an advisory that the airbag light came up incorrectly, but the mot station know the car (stilo) is known for it and leave it at that

    Easily fix that yourself. I had it on my stilo, after an hour of flidding the connections, I sorted it. The bleeping drove me literally up the bend. http://www.fiatforum.com/stilo-guides/72482-airbag-failure-warnings.html

    It's pretty easy to be naughty with the ABS light and any other light (airbag etc) which may be tested in the future. You can simulate correct operation by hooking the LEDs / Bulbs up to a microcontroller (I've used a PICAXE before as these are for schools and come with excellent beginner instructions that a child could follow) and program it to stay on for X seconds when it receives a live (from a switched live from the car which comes when you turn the key in the ignition). The jobs done for less than £25 and a few hours.

    You can do it for a couple of quid if you have a good understanding of analogue circuits and can solder etc.

    Don't go down this road. Bodging things is wrong.
