any mechanics offer opinion on this?

Ok , it seems that I may have been confusing some other people reading because I was mentioning "calipers" apologies...being a woman who admits to knowing very little about cars I thought I was giving the correct info...
It appears that I was saying calipers but actually should have been saying CYLINDERS. One cylinder was replaced on the car on 16th March and the other was replaced just last week (when the fluid pumped out )
So , as you all know , the car failed the psv twice. The original mechanic got arsy with me and told me that he wasnt willing to deal with us anymore. In other words I cant fix your car as I have no clue what is wrong with it!
Hubby yesterday took the car to another mechanic WHO HAS A ROLLING ROAD (the same mechanic who diagnosed a pressure fault on friday) and they had the car for 6 hours and telephoned Hubby to say that the car was ready...
Hubby went to pick it up and they told him it was sorted , they had checked it on the rolling road TWICE and all was hunky dory . But  they then told Hubby that the problem had been the cylinders !!!! WHAT? ,how could it be the cylinders when they were replaced , one 6 wks ago and one a wk ago?
Any way , I told Hubby to get himself back round to the mechanic and get the OLD cylinders off him just incase he was being fly....
Hubby did this and when he got home and we looked at the cylinders one was shiny and new and the other was ancient which leads us to believe that eithher the first mechanic lied about replacing the one 6 weeks ago or this second mechainc is taking the p**s and didnt actually remove these two parts from our car yesterday...
As this second mechainc had tested the car on the rolloing road and said it was passing the test we went to the psv centre this morning and booked a retest THE THIRD RETEST for this afternoon. Well , Hubby has just phoned me there to say that the bloo dy thing has failed again!
I am at my wits end with this now , 1 main test and 3 retests and still we cant get our car sorted !
What can we do? We cant afford to keep paying out time after time for repairs and retest fee's . The second mechainc charged us yesterday £235 for replacing 2 cylinders and a rear wheel bearing (which went just the other day) . Thats over £500 now to try to get the car through psv and we are no closer.
Would anyone have any advice?
So ,
Trade it in for a new/newer car...just an idea0 -

You said earlier that he paid £141 about a week ago for handbrake adjust & replace [strike]caliper[/strike] cylinder. Then he replaced the other side cylinder after the brakes failed when driving.
Why are you now saying one was replaced 6wks ago and the other a wk ago?
If one was replaced 6 weeks ago then again a few days ago in addition to the other from a week ago, that would explain why it was more shiny than the other one. because it was virtually new anyway.
You need to go back to the second mech with the fail papers and ask them to roll test it again. If it passes you might want to consider going to VOSA for an appeal, however AFAIK you can only appeal the fail (to VOSA) if you opted for an MOT as part of your plating test.
At the end of the day getting faults fixed on cars is not easy, and often results in replacing parts only to find the fault is still there. But when I get work done I stay there and watch them replace the parts. And in my taxi days this was not because I did not trust the mechanic, I just stayed for a chat and even helped him in any way could.
How about new shoes and new drums, and make sure there is no air in the rear brake pipes.
Sorry, you're having a nightmare, you will just have to keep throwing money at it until it either passes or throw in the towel and get a new car. If you can't afford that then he may have to suspend his insurance for a period while he rents a car from someone.0 -

We have today had new drums fitted to the car . It was checked on the rolling road a few times after the drums were fitted and it gave good readings on both occasions.
Cant get a retest until Friday morning though. The loopy one has gone :j0 -
You could also ask the second garage (BIT LATE NOW) why they replaced two shiny new cylinders and without phoning you for authorisation? and where the the old(new) cylinders are now (probably thrown out but should still be in the bin).0

And new shoes? surprised if they have not done new shoes, after all every thing else replaced and shoes are not expensive.0

The shoes were replaced last week when the brake fluid contaminated them.
There have been so many parts replaced this past lot of weeks . I have to go and rummage through his accounts to look at the receipts :rotfl:The loopy one has gone :j0 -
