Hi

I currently have a problem whilst unlokcing the doors via the central locking that 1 of the rear doors does not unlock sometimes.

Does any one one what the problem is?

I am sure this is a sticky solenoid, lots of our MK4 Astra response cars has issues withthe rear central locking doing just what yours do, the fitters never needed to replace very often, and would strip the door and use some silicon spray to free things up, have never stripped one down myself, but from the length of time they were working on them and the fact they used silicon spry makes me think something is just sticky.

Though I susopect even if you have to replace a part it will be easily available in a breakers.

I agree, as a mechanic, I have repaired alot of these.. very simple 30min job, assuming that the solenoid is just sticking.. then replacement is a little more tricky (but not massively)

    Hi

    Thanks for your comments,

Just to ask, does anyone one how long it should take to do in a garage and how much roughly it should cost?

thats interesting as a local vauxhall main stealer wanted 800.00 quid for one of my staff to replace the central locking, but a local garage sorted it out, though not as easily as above.

Common fault on zafira's, which are a similar model, is the wiring loom into the door. Prone to cables breaking, and is quite an easy fix.

My problem with my Mk4 Astra is not the car itself but the bloody fob which seems to eat watch batteries every week

Weel over half our mk4 Astra had a busted fob!

The one I am using at the moment has one that works, yay.

Actually apart from nine years of heavy usage causing the usual degradation to the interior and bodywork the car is surprisingly good to drive.

Says a lot about the mk4 Astra, they really where underrated.

The MK5 Astra has proved very reliable for the Met aswell.

They have 5 door hatchbacks, in Design trim, I believe they have the 1.7 CDTi engine, which I think is a vauxhall unit, somebody said all the 1.7's are Isuzu, but I had a mk3 Astra with a 1.7 engine and that was the later vauxhall/opel lump. So I reckon the later Astra have a vauxhall/opel lump. Unless an Isuzu 1.7 was reintroduced for the MK5? Anybody know for sure.

The 1.7DTi in the mk3 was noisier than the Isuzu lump.

If i was to buy an Astra for commuting duties I would consider any 1.8 petrol, or a 1.7 CDTi, I wouldn't touch a 1.9 CDTi, the earlier 2.0 DTi engine would be fine also. But I haven't seen a 2.0 DTi Astra mk4 for years. Most seemed to be the 1.7DTi.

    Hi

The Problem seems to be the solenoid as it has been found to be faulty. so quote on the job is

    Parts £47.00
    Labour £30-£40

Is this fair. The part is new and only vaxhall sell this Ive been told. Couldn't find throught other reatilers i.e. unipart as the part numbers don't match.

Well it doesn't seem expensive for a main dealer part, probably best to get a new one anyway, as they do appear to be an issue in the MK4, a second hand one may just be a few weeks away from breaking aswell.
