XP SP2 and Digital Cameras

Options
Ah, just a word of caution before you install XP SP2, which is now available.

If you use an IEEE 1394 firewire, a little cable, to connect to your digital camera, you may no longer connect to the digital camera as it will be by blocked by the Firewall (MS has one now!!!!!!!!!!!)

Now be carefull chaps, before those rip off merchants try and squeeze money out of us MSEs, just follow these tips.

If you really want to have hackers attack you, you can of course turn off the MS XP 2 firewall (NOT RECOMMENDED). Apologies to MSEs, I needed to SHOUT!!

If you are more adept to this technology, go to firewall settings (Control Panel/Network Connections). It's on the menu on the left!

Go to the advanced tab, select the 1394 connection and allow it to communicate with your camera. Can't be more specific than this MSEs

Now do not let the scammers rip us off!!

  • Does SP2 affect inputting from digital cameras using the normal USB connection instead of the one mentioned i.e. Firewire. I have SP2 installed and when connecting the camera I got the normal window offering the options. The Slide View option read the photos from the camera and displayed them OK but when I chose the 'Go to a folder on my computer' it didn't allow me to chose a folder so I had to load them by selecting my computer and then appropriate removable drive. I then copied them to a specific folder. Though I did it it took longer than normal. ???
  • Don't really know the answer to this one. All my USB Ports work correctly in SP2. It was the Firewire port that had to be updated.
