Tax "benefit" advice

Hi everyone
Not sure whether you can help but hope someone can point me in the right direction.
My fiance has just been told that he can claim some kind of "benefit" from the tax office for the tools he has to supply for his job (apparently about £120 a year). He tried to call the Tax Office but apparently because their records "probably aren't up to date"!! he failed the security questions and they wouldn't help him any further
Do you know where I might be able to find out whether he is getting all he is entitled to? He is a mobile gas engineer for a property maintenance company (he is a PAYE employee - not self-employed) and has personal use of his vehicle but has to supply most of the tools he uses for his job.
Thanks in advance
Vanessa
