Distance Selling - Returning a unsuitable spare part

Hi All,
Hopefully this is a pretty straightforward one.
Ordered a spare part from buyspares.com for our fridge freezer, item came with free postage as if was over £30. Said part is too small so I have informed them I want to return it, was told on the phone I would have to pay postage costs and an admin fee. Asked for the CS reps manager to call me back as I was aware of my rights.
I have checked their return policy and it states the following:
"We will allocate an Auth Code, then issue a Returns Pack containing a Prepaid Returns Label and all details on how to return the item.
Upon completing a satisfactory validation of the goods returned, we will refund you any money paid for the product, less the return carriage fee, which will normally equate to the outbound carriage charge."
Just want to confirm that they are able to subtract any postage costs from the refund of the money paid for the product? Obviously I didn't pay postage for the 'outbound carriage charge' as it was free, nor will I pay return postage as they will issue a pre-paid label.
I'd also add that the reason the item was bought in error was that there was very little information on the products dimensions on their site, the model number matched, the parts picture looked identical to the one I need to replace, but it turns out it's slightly too small. Assumption is the mother of all **** ups and all that.
Any advice appreciated, cheers.

They've trickly worded this one as they've said the charge is actually for the return postage, which you are liable for, and not the outward postage, which you are not.0
-
However, they cannot charge an "admin fee". All you are liable is the cost of sending it back to them, and that's the ACTUAL cost of that. No more, no lessOne important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0
-
Presumably you could return it yourself, depending on how much the outward postage was vs the cost of special delivery to them?0
-
Thanks all, I'll just swallow the postage fees (if they're reasonable), I'll refuse any requests for 'admin fees' though.0

Just realised you're a villa fan. My advice is to offer them £300 compensation for the hassle you've given them. One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0
