No, you didn't explicitly state it, but it's your implication. If Metro Bank wanted to deter people from opening an account purely for fee free exchanges, all they'd need to do is introduce minimum credits etc to the requirments of holding the account. As it is, they are a new bank looking for customers.../QUOTE]

I can't stop your imagination. But please don't say that it is from me. I did say "I hope people using the Metro Bank just like stilltheone."

It is not exactly what you said "And the poster who is claiming that if too many people open a Metro account, this will mean that Metro will go on to withdraw the facility thus depriving him of said facility is just being selfish." Please use your imagination somewhere else.

Well, it became my business from the moment you said that you presumed English is not my frist language or I am an idiot. I just want to tell you that people speak other language not an idiot.

I made the assumption that I would be able to use this account as though I was using my account in the UK; and I had wanted to keep cash withdrawals to a minimum in Thailand as you are charged every time you use the machine regardless of the amount of the withdrawal./QUOTE]

There will be no way Metro bank will reserve your pending balance if you use your card at the ATM to withdraw money.

I can absolutely assure you that it did happen; it was the cash withdrawal outside my hotel in Bangkok. And it didn't just happen to me, it happened to my mother also - this was the last transaction that they had to cancel off before things were as they should have been. This is the only reason I queried what other people had been saying about double authorisations; perhaps it was down to the Thai bank, I don't know.

I was only called like that by one of my neighbours. Unfortunately, he was killed by a car accident last year. Believe me, I don't want you to be like him. God bless.

Yes, he was a good man. It was a shame. Anyway, if you have time, PM another poster, and take his/her advice in person, remember to bring your mother with you. Good luck.
  • Hi,

I have just got back from Thailand and it looks like metro bank have done soemthing similar with me! I withdrew 10,000 baht and it has gone through twice on my card, although at 2 different forex rates and one on the next day, however they both calculate to 10,000 baht so they are the same transaction.

I'm lucky i did not make another withdrawal otherwise i would have gone negative.

Did they ventually sort out they problem? I cant beleive they have let this happen again and wonder how many other customers have had this problem.
  • I am not moaning. I am just reporting that the same thing has happened to me. I have already spoken to them and they are investigating and I have also told them about this forum. I don't know if they will take any notice, but hopefully because this has happened before they will sort it out for me fairly quickly.

i used metro card recently in Asia and it worked fine. The exchange rates were better than Halifax clarity credit card for some reason for all the transactions. The statement on website even displays the detailed exchange rate applied on each transaction.
