Car accident scam?

Hi

Not to sure where to post this but here goes...

I get a call from car insurance underwriter, say I had been involved in an alleged incident (I don't give info to incoming calls so had to call car insurance to find out under write and then get official number to call them back on). After looking at the time and date I could see that I was commuting back home along a Motorway when the incident happened 100mile away in a town center. So I get some paper work saying if I am contacted to not reply just forward it to the insurance company.

Then last night I got a call from a 'solicitors' from a man with a very heavy Asian accent, I think the company was 'Sky Claims' and that they had got my name from RCA (Register of Car Accidents). He wanted me to 'confirm if anyone in the house hold had been involved in a motor accident recently'. I just want to know the company and where they got my name from.

So is there such a thing as a RCA (Register of Car Accidents)?
How did they get my number?
Is it legal to get unsolicited calls from a solicitors? (I am on the register to not get dales calls)
Is there a professional body Solicitors belong to that I can make an official complaint about this?

Any info would be gratefully recieved.
Kind regards
Giles

It will be a coincidence - ambulance chaser firms do cold call in the hope of finding clients recently involved in accidents.

    Just ignore.

Just tell anyone who phones to speak to your insurance company (dent tell them your company name). It may be possible that your number plate has been cloned.

Just in case make sure you have proof of were you were at the time of the accident i.e. email from manager stating time you left work on that day. Any receipts from shop/petrol station/ATM that have timestamps that proce you couldn't be 100 mile away at time of accident.

Don't give them the name of your insurance company, they could then set about making a claim against you. If they're genuine they'll have access to the motor insurance database and won't need you to give them that info.
If a 3rd party contact your insurance company and mention accidents, your premium will go through the roof whether they make a claim or not.

    Many thanks for the replies.
I think I will ignore it as I have not given them any information.
If they phone again I'll dig for more info about themselves.
    Thanks

    To answer your questions:

    1. There is no such thing as a "Register of Car Accidents".

    2. Can't answer that.

    3. No, it's not legal to make unsolicited calls.

    4. Yes, the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
