Same as Wetherspoon's but allegedly posher, there is a Lloyds No. 1 at Fulham Broadway.

Other than that, Fulham/Chelsea isn't exactly a cheap area: very nice, just not very cheap.

    Im obviously missing something here.
I would never compare Wetherspoons to a traditional family run pub, but I must admit that I've used Wetherspoons for the value aspect alone. So please, somebody, tell me if I should be avoiding them for some good reason?

Wetherspoons and Lloyd's No.1 are both owned by JD Wetherspoon. Lloyds are the bars that play music, and are meant to be trendier, where as I believe the Wetherspoons don't play music!?!
I have heard a rumour the drinks are cheap for a reason, because they buy nearly out of date stock, but not sure how true this is. I do know last time I bought a bottle in there, it was only in date by 2 months!!

How much is an average pint in Londinium then? Where I live £2.80 is expensive for a pub, clubs are £3.00, and Wetherspoons are £1.50 - £2.10 depending what you have.

I go to Wetherspoons when I need somewhere quick and cheap, which it is. I don't mind how old my drinks are as long as they're in date (a little) and i get change from a tenner for 2 Jd's and coke. And I love their paninis and chicken pasta alfredo :p
  • Wetherspoons:

Well I think it depends on your local branch! :D

Where I live, I wouldn't go into the Wetherspoons if you paid me (well...ok maybe I would...) because it is so cheap, it attracts a lot of drunks & people I don't really want to hang around with . Not everyone who goes in there is like that of course but, I have to say, from my own personal experience, it's never been a *pleasant* experience going in there. So I avoid it.

Plus from my own experience, Wetherspoons tend to have a ubiquitous smell of vomit when you stand near the bar.....

However I haven't been to all Wetherspoons all over the UK so this is not a fair assumption of them all. I won't tar them all with the same brush...I would just go in prepared if you know what I mean.

  • We had a weekend in London and visited Weatherspoons on the Tower bridge. The whole pub had a no smoking policy and the food was cheap but actually quite good. A LOT better than the awful Indian restaurant we visited opposite tower bridge (the posh part)

Glad to see Wetherspoons getting a positive review. Yes some of them are ropey and should be avoided but not all by any means. They are excellent value for money for both food and drink. I think the story about their drinks being cheap because they buy nearly out of date stock is an urban myth.

Just my opinion of course though :)
Dealing with my debt and my weight :D
    Debt at LBM 22/12/08 £33,270
Debt now £30,100 (9.5% paid off)

    £2 coins saved and banked = £210
  • Yep, this backs up my theory that it really depends on where you go.
You just can't judge them all by a dodgy experience in one or two that are miles away.

If I see one on Saturday I shall pop in!
