yellow paint came out too yellow

i know i should have done my research before i bought it but i recently moved into a flat which is empty as i am low on money but thought i would start with the painting first.
i chose all the colours for the rooms, checking on the crown website first, and realised some shades did not look like the colour on the tin, like it did on the website. so i went for the website prefered colours.
all the rooms came out really nice, i chose a variety of colours.
for the kitchen i wanted a toned down yellow, more like cream with a tint of yellow. i read the labels in the shop, then looked online on the crown website, and realised one yellow was too yellow on the website so settled for a lighter yellow colour.
once it was on the wall, it came out too yellow. it is bright and i prefer a tint of yellow rather than shocking.
i googled it to find this thread which seems like it is common http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/paint/msg0623482825649.html
i purchased the paint from b&q and had a painter paint it for me. do i have any rights in getting a swap, even though the tin is used? it hasn't come out the way i want it to.
this is the type of yellow i wanted, a bit cream http://www.dekedekay.com/526fitch/kitchen.jpg

and this is what it sort of looks like http://www.dekedekay.com/526fitch/greatroom1.jpg probably not as bright as this but i still think it's not the type of yellow i wanted.

If the paint in the tin is as per the colour on the tin, or is the colour from the colour chart, then there is no way B & Q will do a swap.
You chose the colour and they supplied the colour you required.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
The paint in the tin is much brighter compared to on the tin. We also looked at the Crown website before we bought it, and the yellow looked much more lighter (in the room previews) compared to other yellows.
We did the same thing we the other colours and they all came out fine. Except for the yellow.0 -
there is no way that you should rely on websites for colour matching. Every PC monitor has colours set differently and I'm sure if you look on the website there will be a caveat telling you that the images are not to be relied on as an accurate representation of the actual colours.
Why didn't you use a tester pot?Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
yea i realise i shouldnt have relied on it but the other colours matched perfect and also the rooms would change for every tint of yellow on the website.
if i have any options to get a swap i'd like to know really so i can make the trip tomorrow or not. my family seem to like the colour but i think it is too bright.0 -

Have you got your furniture in, pictures up, curtains up.
It can look really really different when the room is finished and
dressed.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Was the colour Sunrise? It does go on a bit yellow!
Whisper of Egyptian sand is OK, but quite muted.
Ivory cream is nice but very light.
We end up decorating every year, I gets bored
Get tester pots and test them somewhere out of the way (move a wardrobe and test the wall behind it
) Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession

i think i bought happy daze, but it looks nothing like how the website shows it, or the tin, like the other colours do.
i dont think i can afford using tester pots then buying paint again.0 -
All paint websites, colour charts and even the outside of the can will always state that it is a representation - you should have used a tester pot first.0

Reading this thread it reminds me of Only Fools and Horses when Del paints Mr Wongs kitchen. Only the dodgy paint he bought was illuminous yellow paint used for road signs and the kitchen ends up glowing at night....:)0
