Question about DLA Care and Mobility

A DS1500 will already have been completed on you and you come under the special rules group. You don't have to prove anything to anyone and are not even required to do a medical.
The BEL line is a good general starting point, benefit specific numbers are below.
The BEL line number is : 0800 88 22 00
Disability Living Allowance: 028 9090 6182
Attendance Allowance: 028 9090 6178
Carers Allowance: 028 9090 6186
In short and within reason you can have anything you need without any requirement to prove anything to anyone, the DS1500 report clears any obstacles for you.
NOTE. This, quite properly, is one of the few fast track avenues. Best of luck

Thanks everyone, you're very kind

Richie, I got the DS1500 form filled in by my GP and sent it myself along with a DLA claim form. The first half of the DLA form stated that I could skip all the Care component stuff if claiming under the special rules, but I should fill in a few questions regarding the Mobility component if I wanted to try claiming for that too. I did so, though I stated explicitly that I felt I wasn't bad enough to need HRMC/ a Blue Badge. I do hope they'll consider me for LRMC though, it would be helpful! We'll see.....0 -

I think you will find their consideration with be [ unusually ] positive and sympathetic my friend, the DS1500 is the equivalent of the biggest key in the world - it is designed to open virtually any door.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Cheers Richie - it sounds like you know about this stuff, may I ask a question? No worries if you can't help

I have been claiming ESA (contributions based) for the past year due to previous health problems and have been in the WRAG, which has been brilliant as it allowed me to study and gain voluntary experience to train for a new career when my spinal problems meant that my last career was no-longer possible. I was just being offered jobs and was about to come off ESA when I got diagnosed with cancer in December, which was hugely !!!!!! timing.
So I'm still on ESA and I know that I can probably move into the Support Group now. I gave the ESA chaps a call and they told me to send a DS1500 to them, but I haven't done so yet as I supposed it would mean that I'd need to get my GP to write another one out. Is it possible that ESA would be able to get the DS1500 info from the DLA people though, and save me the hassle?0 -
Although technically ESA could get the DS1500 from the DLA unit it would be quicker all round for you to get your GP to fill in another one.
I wish you well.

Hi everyone - just an update on this. I got my award letter today and I've been awarded Higher Rate Care (as expected) and also Higher Rate Mobility! That was a huge surprise, I actually wrote on my form that I felt I wasn't bad enough to need a Blue Badge. The extra money will be extremely welcome but I'm bemused. I guess it's because my prognosis is poor and they feel I may end up needing to claim for it at some point anyway. I'm not going to dwell on that cheerful little thought, I'm trying to get myself fit enough so I can go hillwalking again

Take it the way you find it FleurDuLys, you and all others reading this group know how difficult it is to satiate the criteria. You have done so, you are entitled. The big key has done the job it was designed to do.
