ipod url ip v computer name

I have an apache server setup (winxp) on my home network running a php site.

I am trying to connect to it using the name of the pc e.g.

http://myserver/index.php

This does not work on the ipod but does work on a pc using IE/Firefox/Safari.

If I use the IP address then it does work (for pc and ipod) e.g.

http://192.168.1.10/index.php

Does anyone know why the PC name doesn't work and how to get it to work on the ipod?

I think you need to convert it to ipod resolution before you can view it on there. :)

It's nothing to do with that. He didn't even say he was talking about video, and he can access the files via the ip address, just not the resolved name.

OP - what version of iOS do you have on your ipod?

I have a feeling that it may be DNS related.

If you have a local DNS server, you could create a record on the server that resolves myserver to 192.168.1.10 and see if it works then. If you have a jailbroken ipod, you could try editing the hosts file but it will be at your own risk.
The server I'm running is XAMPP and afaik it doesn't have a dns server. After a quick search I have found some stuff about editing some config files so that might be worth a try. I guess the ipod OS network layer works differently to PC's and that's why it doesn't work if it is DNS.
