Smart Glass

I would like to know if anyone has any experience of installing 'smart glass' in their home. This is glass that can be transparent or opaque at the flick of a switch.

I viewed a house today with a flat roof over a bathroom extension tacked on to the rear of the house. It is in a terrace of four and the other houses have pitched roofs on these extensions - this one also did at one stage evidenced by the markings left behind.

If I were to buy the house I would restore the pitched roof, and think it would be a nice addition to include a velux-style window whilst I'm doing it. As it is over the bathroom, it would be useful to be able to obscure the glass when bathing yet allow light in at other times. A cursory search suggests this would only cost around £500 or so (excluding installation).

I can see that this may be considered a gimmick, but I think it has a practical use that would also be quite impressive as they are not commonplace at present. Thoughts on this?

Smart glass isnt completely clear when its in normal glass mode, it's a little hazy which is why you don't hear much of it installed in homes in the UK.

The tranformer is also the size of a small baby, which is hard to conceal sometimes as it needs to be available for repair should it break.

get yerself some posh blinds instead
