in Credit cards
Hi all,
Somebody in Hong Kong withdraw or maybe Online transfer almost 600 pounds from my credit card one 14th of March. The money withdraw by twice and each time is about 300 pound plus around 7.6 pound cash charge.
I've reported the fraud to my bank and confirmed that I definitely in the UK on that day. I request cancelled my current credit card and ask to replace with a new one. They told me to wait for 1-2 days for a declaration form arrive and will get me a refund.
I'm not quite sure how to duel this kind of problem as I never met this problem before. Could some have any experience that can help me and tell me what to do to get the money back please.
The bank told me, maybe somebody videoed or took picture of my credit card information when I used them in shop, and sold the information to Hong Kong to clone another card.
If this happened, Can I still get refund from bank or I don't stand any chance to get the refund?
I'm very appreciated if you could give my some ideas or tell me what to do next.
Many Thanks.
Kevin

You've already done the right things - reported it to your bank and cancelled the card. When the form comes, fill it in and send it back.
The bank have a fraud department that will investigate this claim and will decide whether or not you get the money refunded. They will generally always refund the money (or should do!) unless they can prove that you were negligent and shared your password or left your card lying around.
Clearly you can prove that you weren't in Hong Kong at the time and this shouldn't be a problem. I would wait a few days for them to investigate and then call them for an update.0 -
Fraud is fraud and if you have reported it, you will get your money back, stop worrying. I dont know how long it will take, you would be better ringing your cc company to ask how long it will take.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
The form will tell you what you have to do..very worrying for you but is now a common thing... you will get the money back....It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
Yes, all of the above posters are right in that you followed the correct procedure and it is more than likely that you will not be liable for the fraud sum.
I went through this procedure about 4 years ago with an HSBC card. £500 had been spent at a hotel in Rio de Janeiro although I was in England at the time. The odd thing was that I was due to go to Rio the following month, but hadn’t made any contact or reservations with that hotel. I had made all of my arrangements for my Rio trip through Expedia. The extra spooky thing is that the hotel where the fraud occurred was one that I had stayed in about four years previously.
Anyway, as far as procedure goes, over a period of something like six months, I think that I filled in about four forms that all essentially asked me to sign confirming that I didn’t authorise the disputed payment. Nothing onerous or difficult was involved.0 -
Thanks for all of you that left so much valuable advices, I'm thinking of myself could not do anything before the form arrive.0

There's nothing more you can do until the form arrives - they have to go through due process to make sure that you genuinely didn't spend the money yourself (otherwise anyone could just ring up and claim it was fraud!).
Mine took about two weeks to sort out when I claimed. All I had to do was fill in the form, sign and send it back and they wanted nothing more from me.0 -
My card was cloned - the only time it was out of my sight was in a petrol station in the Algarve. It was used 18 months later to obtain goods in Hong Kong. Typical transaction equivalent to a couple of pounds, then another couple and £1500 on the third try. Card was also issued by Barclays. I had good evidence that I was not in Hong Kong as I was sat in a meeting with lawyers on the day the transaction happened, who all said they would confirm that fact if required!
I filled in the form and sent it back - they dealt with everything - and sometime later the money appeared back on my account. Just make sure that you fill in the form correctly - perhaps get somebody to check it before you send it back. I would also send it back recorded delivery as the last thing you need is for it to get lost in the post!0
