Hello everyone,
Im trying to work out if I may have a case to reclaim PPI on my RBS matercard.
I've found letter from back in 2008 when I got the ppi- one letter from RBS and with it a letter from a company called Ventura (club 24 limited) saying they arranged it. It was a cold call out of the blue and I was encouraged to take it out- I was and still am self employed at the time but this was never asked.
On the RBS letter it states to join scheme must be in permanent employment or self employed- BUT in the attached policy summary is says under UNEMPLYMENT cover - significant exclusions or limitation- self employed and not ceased trading?
Also I have a keyfacts paper off Club 24 with a tick next to the box stating 'you will not receive advice or a recommendation from us for payment protection insurance.' this was certainly not the case- they strongly advised me to take it.
My brain is baffled (doesn't take much!) and I dont know if I can claim this as being mis-sold or not.
any help would be much appreciated

Hi there, look here for reasons for mis sell.

If any or all apply to you, then put a claim in.0 -
Hi and welcome
I would click on the link amersall posted and check the check list of mis selling reasons,
Going by your post it seems to me they pressurised you into taking the policy out.
But check for more details anyway.
You will also find on the link a questionnaire to make a reclaim, this replaced the template letter on this site, but you can optionally write to them in your own words if you want to.
If you don't use the questionnaire, and decide to want to make a reclaim in writing, then you:
Enclose your account number of that account.
Inform them you taken out a policy dated XX/XX/XXXX
And you wish to make a reclaim because you believe you were mis sold because...................................
And ask they get back with a decision by 8 weeks.
You actually pursue the ones who set up and sold you the account, either their head office, or if they have a separate complaints dept write to them.
Remember to keep copies of all you send and receive in case you need to refer back to this again at some point, good luck. The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
Thanks for the replies
I had read the section about mis sell reasons and I think mine would be under the pressuried section and the self employment.
Im just a bit baffled by the wording under the conditions- as it seems to state they wont cover unemployment for self employed people unless I ceased trading- so by that wording I take it to mean that if I had no work coming in for say 4 months then I wouldn't be covered by the policy unless I ceased trading? so I was going to argue that its of no use to me and was incorrectly sold to me.
Also I take it that I send any letters to RBS and not that Ventura company?
It really is the wording thats confusing me- not helped by the fact that I have a 3month old baby- so 'baby brain' and sleepless nights isn't helping my grasp on the wording
Thanks for all the advice- the thought of taking this up is filling me with dread about the stress and taking on my bank and I have half thought about handing it over to one of those companies but based on how much they charge I really want to try this for myself if i can0 -

Hiya and your welcome.
Normally "in my opinion" when a company ceases I take it they mean they no longer run, unless someone else can clarify on this.
If that company Ventura were the ones who sold you the product its them you write to.:)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
Thanks- thats pretty much what i was thinking- and it doesn't really provide the unemplyment cover i would want- it wouldnt be a great idea to cease trading if I dont get any work one month as you may get it the next- ceasing trading and re-starting isn't exactly best business practice!!! that wasn't explained at all they didn't even ask about my employment.
So I think its Ventura I will be contacting first then
thanks for the advice - I feel abit less intimidated now0 -
