In case you didn't know already, you don't need to buy Microsoft Office in order to be able to open and create Word, Excel, Powerpoint files etc. OpenOffice is a free office software suite available for download at www.openoffice.org. It's easy to install and use, and it's available for Windows, Linux and Mac. It's compatible with Microsoft Office, it's 100% legal and it's completely free. OpenOffice uses open-source development and standards, unlike Microsoft, which likes to keep things to itself. OpenOffice users now number tens of millions, and include many corporations and government departments. Let's hope the days of overpriced software are over!

I think this has to be the most commonly posted thread on these forums... nothing else seems to come close to its frequency.
Worth pointing out that it isnt 100% compatible with "MS Office" and also only contains the basic Office packages and not the more unusual packages like Project or Visio etc.
Saying that though it is very good for producing basic documents for sharing or full documents as long as you arent collaborating with MS office usersAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

I wonder if that technically makes it spam? Information is already available on forum and it does read like an advert."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

I have never seen it before as will alot of other newbies, unless you go hunting for it (which l wouldn't have).
I know its very annnoying for more established residents but spare a thought for us novices

OK, sorry to post it again. I did search for it before posting, because Open Office has been around for quite a while. But I obviously didn't search hard enough. And apologies to Astaroth, who thought my posting read like an advert - that just habit - I write advertising copy for a living.0
