Residential status, Living with Parents or Private Tenant?

is there any difference it terms of being more easily accepted for a credit card if on the application a person puts between either living with parents or private tenant?
Both circumstances appying to someone that wants to apply for a credit card?
which would be more preferred or which would improve his chances of being accepted?
He is not on the electoral role at any address, as he has not registerd yet.

Both are the truth, as this person is a student living half a year in a student flat and after 6 months goes to live with parents?
    so both are truthful
but he just wanted to know which one is better

As for any address only one of those would be truthful, I'd guess the question is more like which address to put in?

Apart from having a better chance if at the address, he's at the electoral roll (though conceivably, students can be registered at both addresses), maybe you'd better off checking "Check Any Postcode" on https://www.checkmyfile.com - addresses are contributing to the credit risks in a significant way, it's possible that the student flats have a much worse statistical history for defaults. It's not the house itself, but the statistical summary of the people living around that part of the country.

Other than that, I don't think it's obvious (or anyone who knows, can reveal) which is "better" for a particular lender. Private tenants likely to have independent finances, can budget better, but people living with parents have fewer outgoings, can spend more of their income, and likely to be supported by their parents in their financial missteps.
    Enjoy the silence...

it's unclear why he isn't on the electoral roll at his parents address; have they recently moved?

parents address are generally best because
-you can say you have lived there for a long time
-it avoids having to declare lots of recent addresses (common to students who move each year)
-and it means that corresondance doesn't get lost in rented properties
-and it mean he doesn't have to keep changing the correspondance address each time he moves
  • I used my parent's address - it made more sense to me as my mail was much safer going there than to a place where I was living with virtual strangers, plus I didn't need to worry about notifying banks etc if I moved. He really needs to get on the electoral register tho, as is one of the main things that will be checked out when he applies.
