Don't forget the solicitor usung the wrong DX code for sending documents. This has happened to me twice, once 25 years ago and again last year. As for getting info on the other parties I gleaned far more from my buyer than ever through the official channels. In fact my solicitor was amazed, perhaps, aghast, that I was talking to my buyer.0

i never have and never will get involved with a chain..far too many things to go wrong...i do not envy you at all.
Someone at work yesterday was saying that they would also never get involved in a chain. Apparently they sell, rent and then look to buy somewhere else. A lot less stressful!!

I'm buying a chain free place at the moment and it's taking bloody ages. We're 2 months on since I put in an offer, had the survey done and had my mortgage approved and we've still not got a date for exchange. This slow progress seems to be due to a combination of the vendors being overseas (although I don't know why people can't use email) and solicitors putting letters into piles and forgetting about them.
My solicitor reckons we are 'close' now, he wouldn't commit to an estimated date though :mad:0 -
I would just like to add a big plus 1,000,000 to this thread.
It reminds me of an episode of Columbo where just as they think he's walking out of the door its "just one last thing."
It turns out the vendor at the top of the chain has been away, but is now back and sending her paperwork back right away, and thats the last thing.
Will that be the last thing, or will that just lead to one last thing...0 -
Thanks for all the replies, I am glad (or should that be sorry?:D) to see that this is normal.
Still no closer to exchange and still no mortgage. And it's now Friday, so that's another week gone
And I thought we would be making things a bit easier by 'breaking' the chain by going into rental.0 -
I have come to the conclusion that solicitors are mostly lazy, banks are mostly hopeless and estate agents mostly have extremely small brains. Add all of them together and it takes them a while to sort out things.
:rotfl:so naiveMy posts are just my opinions and are not offered as legal advice - though I consider them darn fine opinions none the less.:cool2:
My bad spelling...well I rush type these opinions on my own time, so sorry, but they are free.:o0 -
After weeks of nothing at all, we had a sudden flurry of activity (mainly because we and our buyer kicked a few a***s) and this afternoon we exchanged on the sale of our flat!:T:j:beer:
Still no concrete news on our mortgage, although the building society keep promising that the offer "will be in the post soon".0
