Me and My Money

Hi all

I've just had an email from someone called Charlotte from a website apparently called me and my money saying:

We proudly invite you to be a member of our Customer Advisory Community. This unique opportunity to participate is being extended only to select individuals – to help shape the future of the products we offer so that they are most useful to you.

To be a Community member, we ask that you plan to participate about 15 minutes a week, and at least once a week. Whatever you have to say – positive or negative – we invite you to speak freely in the Community. The topics we discuss will center on how you currently or plan to use our products, and new product ideas.

You will also have the ability to direct the conversation in the Community by suggesting your own ideas of topics to our team of moderators.

To join our Customer Advisory Community, just go to the URL below and register. Then, feel free to explore the Community, and speak your mind freely.

We welcome you to join our Customer Advisory Community, and hope you take us up on this unique opportunity.

There then follows a link which seems to be pure gobbledegook. Has anyone else received one of these, does anyone know if it is genuine or some kind of a scam/virus?

cheers

:D

....who we select by randomly spamming email addresses until someone bites....

    Hmmmm:
    - Unsolicited email from website you've never heard of? CHECK!
    - Load of old rubbish in the text string? CHECK!
    - Request to please click a strange link that will require 'registering', ie the entering of personal information? CHECK
    - A strange link that apparently doesn't go anywhere legit? CHECK

Avoid on principle to be honest.

Bosseyed, I suspect what you say is correct! I'm one of those gullible people who feel flattered at being 'selected'. I didn't try accessing the website or following the link but I did google me and my money and it didn't bring up the website.

    I shall leave well alone.

They're talking about it today over on the Savings and Investment Board.

  • Looking at this a bit further on Google, it looks like it might be an incredibly clumsy venture by the Halifax. It's possible to get through to a market research page on what looks like the Halifax Help Centre. The Help Centre page is identical to the page accessed directly to the Halifax address, but as I can't see a link in to the research page via the genuine Halifax site, I wouldn't rule out a scam.

The spelling of the word *center* makes it look American.
