Thermostatic shower problem...

We have gate valves just like those on our domestic water feeds on the hot and cold water services. One thing you have to watch out for is that they are in fact fully open. When you shut the valves off you have to turn them down HARD to get them to shut off. When you turn the water back on you feel the handle move (Anticlockwise) several turns and stop, you think the water is now on, but it is NOT, all that has happened is that the tolerance in the screw and gate has been taken up and the valve is still shut. Take the valve handle and give it a mighty turn to the left and the gate will unstick and the handle will turn 1/2 doz more times lifting the gate.
This caused me a merry dance when we first moved in and before I sussed out what the hell was going on. You think you have opened the gate valves but you haven't.You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0 -
Ok guys, thanks for all your comments. My guy came last night and replaced the pump with a regenerative pump which (touch wood) so far is working well. If after a week it's still working then I can probably celebrate ( and so can he).0

Crikey Moses. Thats THREE pumps now which didn't need doing. Your shower was and remains wrongly piped unless it's been changed fro the pic you posted. I don't knoiw how many times it is necessary to say it. It doesn't matter how many different pumps you clag onto this poor example of plumbing bodgery the one in situ at the time will STILL be drawing air out of the top of the cylinder and most probably down the vent as well. Guess what will happen?barginunter wrote: »Ok guys, thanks for all your comments. My guy came last night and replaced the pump with a regenerative pump which (touch wood) so far is working well.
Don't think you should. If after a week it's still working then I can probably celebrate
If you are funding the purchase of "n" different pumps which don't need replacing I suppose he can. He doesn't know what he is doing IMO.and so can he.

Thanks. Just to say I haven't paid a penny more since I initially paid for the bathroom. I'll speak to him about what you said.0
